"Teach what you know,  share what you are learning!"

I heard this expression and resonated with it.  If I don’t know it in either of those two ways, I can not share it.  No Bull S…ing people!  Experience first.  Be authentic & genuine!  Share from that place!

That’s what I focus on in my work:  do something with what you know!  I find that practicing….”Right to left” thinking helps!  The other thinking, left to right, looks to the past and attempts to force those ideas or solutions onto what is happening today!

“The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do.
The hard part is doing it.”  – Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr.

HUGE WORLD OUT THERE!  When I started discovering a huge world out there, I made a decision to experience as much of it as possible!  And I have been blessed to do that.  With travel, I didn’t know how to do that at first.  However, I was very aware that if I didn’t begin, I would never learn!  So, I jumped in!

Facilitation work with clients was similar!  At first, I got a lot of advice that simply didn’t fit me.  It didn’t feel genuine or authentic for me.  Rather than develop bad habits I’d need to heal, I practiced being focused on what I wanted to accomplish and noticing things that helped.

A client once asked me if I was intimidated working with corporate presidents.  I told him I wasn’t, that I don’t work with presidents, generals, chief officers…I work with human beings.

Keep growing!  Let go of outdated habits.  Be present NOW!  Manage your focus!  Don’t dream your life, live your dream!  Stay flexible and adaptable.    Be a kind person!

Speaking motivation and focus.

Everyone Dies,
Not Everyone will Live!

A numbing life and work experience left me almost depressed.  One night, turning off my lamp after another extremely long day, I glanced up at the yellowing walls and ceiling.  I realized that I was so exhausted, I was going to fall asleep immediately.  Then, I would wake up just as soon.  Waking, I was going to live today all over tomorrow and today SUCKED!  Oddly, I read an inspiring article in “Enquirer” (I needed some entertainment).  As a result, I suddenly realized the obvious:  if my life was going to change, it was up to me!  So I started.

A Buckminster Fuller idea struck me:  the most valuable learning you can have is to learn generalizable principles.  General principles apply to every aspect of life.  I began gathering ones that worked and felt aligned with me!

Leo Buscaglia suggested that to know and not to do was not to know at all!  I stopped gathering quantity and chose to select a few quality ideas I could live!  And my world expanded.

I wanted to learn flexibility in facilitation so I studied improvisational comedy.  Bob Wells defined it this way:  “You walk to the edge of the cliff, jump, and design your wings on the way down.”  Terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, I jumped in.  My ability to let go and facilitate, adapt to the moment, that improved dramatically!

I decided it was crucial that I remain me, genuine and authentic to who I am, and be consistent whether talking to a group of 1,500 or to one new friend I meet traveling!

Years ago, a participant in a program stopped me after a presentation and said, “Wow!  You really do believe what you talk about!”  Up to that point, I thought that was normal?!

Live. Learn. Experience. Internalize. Grow. Share. Repeat!

Photo’s to the left include some of my favorite quotes.  I do my best to live what they mean to me!

Viktor Frankl, concentration camp survivor and author of “Man’s Search For Meaning” once asked ….

“If life doesn’t have meaning now, what difference does it make simply adding more days to it?”

“Life” is a terminal condition!!  It will end one day.  Pay attention.  Deliberately focus!  What are you moving toward..now…and now…and…“Life” is a terminal condition!!  It will end one day.  Pay attention.  Deliberately focus!  What are you moving toward..now…and now…and…

You are contagious!
