A Walk About With Larry

Lift off and Bali Healers!

Wayan praying over herbsExcited, nervous and mostly ready, I’m amazed at how quickly the past few months have flown by. One week from now, I’ll be landing in San Francisco where I wait five hours to lift off for Singapore. Five hours after I land there, I’ll be going to do Kuala Lumpur where my adventure begins.

Travel time and adjustment

From my past couple experiences, I’ve learned to take some time and acclimate. Really, I mean actually do very Packing possibilitieslittle, rest and let my body catch up. It will be about 40 hours of travel time to get there.

The time change is 15 hours ahead of Colorado time so my body will be wondering WHAT’S up for the first couple days. The past couple trips, I’ve hit the ground running and jumped immediately into adventures. When I landed in Hanoi, a particularly bad stretch of weather was breaking up meaning it was perfect timing to see Halong Bay and to go to Sapa for trekking. About 10 days later, I suddenly realize I was exhausted and needed to find a spot to settle in and unwind. I was near the beach and had a wonderful place to do that with a motor bike rented to transport me around and a great massage place across the road.

Welcome to Bali

In Bali, I did the same thing but this time it wasn’t weather related, it was pure excitement! I’d scheduled a massage at the award winning Jari Menari in Seminyak. When I stopped and asked for directions, I was told it was only a 20 minute walk. Over an hour later, still wondering about, I stumbled into an Organic Restaurant and had a bite of lunch with my remaining time before my appointment. I found Jari Menari, had an amazing massage, wondered back to my hotel, got caught up in all the adrenaline of Kuta beach and just kept going. Within a few days, I was on a plane to Yogyakarta to visit the largest Buddhist Temple in the world at
Borobudur Statuary
Borobudur and the Hindu temple of Prambanan. It was hot, muggy, stiffling, uncomfortable, gorgeous, amazing, entertaining, enlightening and I felt literally adopted by the Muslim family at Hotel Indonesia where I stayed.

My flight was delayed landing me in Bali quite late. The taxi delivered me to Dewa’s Bungalows in Ubud around 2:00 am where I was greeted by the father of the family running it.

Connecting with healers

The next day, I stumbled upon Wayan (Yes, from “Eat, Pray, Love” fame) and had a session with her which helped me realize how bone weary I was. She took me into the forest to work with two healers she works and studied with. Those experiences combined with another healer, Eddy, in Sukawati helped me regain my inner balance, recharge my energy and drop in to a different experience of Bali. It’s one of the most open hearted, warm cultures I have ever visited!  Ahhhh……

Sitting here thinking about my upcoming trip, I couldn’t begin to imagine the unique experiences awaiting me. I have had a knack in the past of running into healers and imagine some of that will happen. The new friends, experiences, adventures, connections, foods, moments, insights and life enrichment awaiting me, I’m taking this trip step by step and seeing what shows up. Come back and I’ll share my experiences with you. Let the adventure begin!

Blessings…..
