Made it! Left for airport around 9:00 pm. Slept a couple hours…maybe. Arrived via taxi at hostel around 1:00 pm the next day. Immediately took a nap.
The hostel staff recommended visiting Shwedagon Pagoda. It was nearing late afternoon so I had them call a taxi via “grab”, a service like Uber. Late afternoon, sun getting ready to set, golden light changing every couple minutes….perfect time to be there!
Great experience there! Crowded and lots of prayer ceremony taking place everywhere! Special!
It was a long walk back but I decided to take my time and explore a bit. The photos from the lake in the gallery are from there. Part of the walk was closed for construction. I had walked a long ways but had to turn around and walk all the way back.
Debating whether to find a taxi or walk, I neared the entrance. A man putting on a dry shirt after walking asked me if I wanted a taxi? Nice man, gentle voice and good energy so I asked how much it was back toward my hostel. He dropped me a couple blocks away at an Indian Restaurant. Perfect!
Today, I explored around Yangon and will do some more tomorrow. After that, I’ll fly or take a bus and head off to begin exploring the country!
