A Walk About With Larry

Mandalay, Myanmar..first day.

Departing Yangon

For those of you who don’t have facebook, I posted this live video last night.

Great spot, different vibe for hotel.

After a couple days in Yangon, I caught a flight to Mandalay. Looking at a map, the area doesn’t look that huge. However, the spots I picked to visit include bus trips for up to 14 hours. Flying to my first destination made a lot of sense. Perhaps flying more will as well?!

Contrast….confusion finding baggage check gate for NOK Air in Bangkok with departing Yangon!

Security wait…can’t really call it a line!

First impressions: Mandalay looked, hot, dusty and not that impressive! Walking around and getting a feel for the town, my impression has changed. There is a lot to see here. And the staff at the hotel, after initially not being very helpful, have been great sources of information!

Great bed as well! Not a lot of room in my “room”…but it’s for sleeping and that’s really comfortable! REAL mattress with nice linen!

Approaching the airport for landing, temples, pagoda’s and stupa’s were seemingly everywhere! I’m in the North part of town so will go walking in a little bit exploring before the heat sets in.

LAUNDRY…yes, they do laundry here! I’ll come home to clean clothes later today. I’ve been doing my own laundry so it’s not like I have had nothing to wear. The luxury of having clothes really cleaned by machine, folded and returned isn’t something I take for granted.

When I return today, I’ll have some photo’s to share. The wifi here has been spotty so I’ll see how that works.

Saw this sticker which describes how many people in this region drive. Only they are doing it at 50 kph rather than 120 kph!
