A Walk About With Larry

Final hours in Kuala Lumpur

Photo of a painting. Peaceful happy people.

As I wrap up this portion of the trip and begin the journey back home, I’m appreciating all the simple, peaceful people I’ve encountered. Now back in Kuala Lumpur, civilization has taken hold. People are facing about, head down, no eye contact….or eyes glued to0 their phones.

Simple life, not a lot of struggle, making the most of what they have and enjoying it. “We have enough today” I heard one person say. That’s enough! How people complicate things!

My time has flown by here. I knew it would. I’m not fond of cities but decided to spend three nights here so I could fly and have acupuncture before leaving.

Yesterday, I flew. For those of you not on FaceBook, here are some photo’s.  In a wind tunnel, Kuala Lumpur, winds near 190 mph.  Awesome!

And today I went for acupuncture. My favorite doctor was there. She gave me a balancing treatment and some herbs for the occasional cough I picked up, likely from the dust and smoke in areas I traveled through during dry season. Already feeling much better.

Afternoon break…before the rains and thunderstorms hit, I took the MRT to KL Sentral station and shopping center. I wasn’t hungry so had a late lunch. Then, I found a quiet coffee shop to read and chill. In shopping centers, prices are nearly US prices! I got a hot chocolate which cost $4.00 US.

Delicious Hot Chocolate!

Travel here is so simple! Of course, maybe that’s because I’ve been to this city several times in the last 10 years! Once I figured it out, it is easy to get anywhere, with the exception of crowded peak times. Coming back to the hostel around 6:30, I still had to wait for three trains before I could get on! Other times, it’s really simple!

And with China Town and Indian food right here, it has been a fun place to walk, eat, people watch and experience local life. This time, the vendors on Petaling Street are more aggressive, there are few tourist around now.

In a few hours, I’ll be up at 2:30 am for the return journey. I leave at 3:00 am by taxi for the bus terminal. The bus leaves at 3:30 and takes an hour to the airport (more like 40 minutes at that time of days ).

For international flights, I’m unable to pre-check so will have plenty of time to do that. And, my first leg is with ANA/Nippon Airlines and they are great to work with.

Roughly, 7 1/2 hours to Tokyo. Once there, I have a three hour wait. That’s fine, better than the 50 minutes I once had between flights which had me literally running through the long terminals to make it.

Then, depending on weather, I have about 12 1/2 hours back to Denver.

And it’s a 14 hour time change. My departure at 3:00 am here is 1:00 pm in Colorado. I am trying something different this time to help adjust once I get home. New product to help with jet lag adjustment once home so I’m curious how well it will work!?

Awesome experience! Amazing to realize I’ve been traveling literally for over six months with one short stop at home to repack.

Now to finish packing and get to bed!

Ciao!
