A Walk About With Larry

Experiencing the “Alma De Tikal”…the Soul of Tikal!

Tikal has long been a favorite place.  My first visit was 30-years ago.  When feeling out a great birthday adventure, this was toward the top of the list.  And I’m really happy I came here.

I arrived early from Flores and went exploring since my room wasn’t ready.  By the time the heat of the afternoon began, I was back looking for a place to eat lunch.

Compared to my past and normal mode of travel, this is not a budget trip. Of course, that is relative.  If I told you exactly  how much I was spending, it would still be very cheap compared to most normal travels people take.

It is a National Park so options are limited and a bit exclusive.  I had a fruit salad and coffee for lunch yesterday which cost $9.00 US.  Four slices each of pineapple, papaya, orange and banana.  Yes, it was fresh!

Transportation is expensive.  Meals are pricey.  My room here was booked because of it’s relative inexpensive cost.  However, there were hidden 20% fees which were the equivalent of one night stay in a hostel.  Two nights lodging is equal to approximately 7 nights hostel stay.

And, it is Tikal!!!  There is a reason I continue coming back  here!

Here are some views…notice the crowds everywhere.  NOT!  Certainly different from Chichen Itza and such.

No crowds!  Amazing jungle! Awesome birds both for sightings and their morning and evening music!

I’m loading some photo’s.  Soon, I am off to a more remote area with no wifi, etc.  Yay!

And finally, it has literally taken two days and more than five hours to get this posted.  Very slow wifi.  But where I am going, there isn’t any.  So this is my last post for a while.

Travel plans:  leave at 5:00 am for Flores, Guatemala.  Catch 8:00 am bus for Rio Dulce.  Take boat to Casa Perico.  Next day, boat back to Rio Dulce then public boat toward Livingston on the coast.

Departure (after my birthday)…boat back to Rio Dulce.  Five hour bus ride to Flores.  Spend the night.  Then 7:00 am departure for Bacalar plus hour time change.  Then a bus to Tulum (yes, a very full day).  Then a few days relaxing and at the beach before going to Valladolid for my final few days including Sunday music at the Zocolo!  Final night will be in Cancun as I have an early flight.  Lots of travel planning involved.  So happy to feel up to this again!!!

Ciao!

Buena Vida!

Larry
