Lots of traveling. One night here and there. Two days hiking. Two days riding a bike around the Sacred City. Now, I’m preparing to get on a train tomorrow and head to the Northern tip of Sri Lanka, Jaffna
A glimpse: in Kansas and Colorado, it’s normal to have flocks of doves and geese flying overhead at sunset. Here, it’s been flying foxes, huge groups of parrots, egrets and local swallows. The sounds are impressive and I have trouble walking as I’m gazing skyward!
Lots of history in this area.
Between the history and a beauty, it’s been amazing! Of course, that’s just me!
We came out of a hike and were passing the entry to Lion Rock. Buses were unloading and crowds of people were noisily milling about. Crowds are not my thing. I heard a sound and looked up to see two hornbills landing in the top of the tree right above them. No one looked up.
As I was watching them, I noticed a Toucan on branch behind and a couple branches over, a parrot was sitting watching the activities below! How cool! And almost NO ONE was looking up! Today on my bike rice, same thing. I found quiet country lanes through the trees and saw peacock, mongoose, painted stork, egrets, parrots, toucan and number of other birds I can’t identify. That was as exciting for me as the ruins!
Very slow wifi here so I’ll post more when I get to Jaffna! One more photo from the Sacred City today.
Awesome day! Spent about 7 hours on a bike exploring. Ready for some rest now!
