A Walk About With Larry

Bangkok time distortion

It seems impossible this is only my second day in Bangkok? It must be longer? It feels so warm and familiar here. I’ve been all over the place already, at least the new area where I’m staying for the first time. Maybe jet lag is skewing my awareness except, I don’t feel like I have any jet lag? The new homeopathic product worked great.

I have arrived and am staying near the dental clinic at A One Inn. The family is great and have a very nice breakfast waiting each morning for guests. So far, I’m only met people from France, Holland, Germany, Canada, Australia, Thailand but that’s a start. As usual, some people are very friendly, others don’t make eye contact or smile.

I’ve spent three hours a day in the dentist chair for two days. I’m very glad I came here to have things dealt with. They discovered problems with several filings, a couple teeth have cracks in them and thin walls, and the dentist are extremely thorough in explaining what they are finding and what I should do about it. They are even instructing me to change the way I’m brushing. I had four filings done today and a cleaning so my teeth are a bit sensitive.

Once that goes away, the next question will be for the tooth that gets the crown. If it is sensitive, they will need to do a root canal first. That also means I’d have to change my flight out of the country it I can or simply miss it. This is definitely the business end of travel for me.

Tomorrow, I move to a different hotel closer to the river. I’ll be there for two or three nights and may come back this way before I leave Bangkok. It’s nice being so close to all transportation available here and that makes it a breeze getting to the airport from here and the Indonesian Embassy.

Tonight, I had my best dinner which was a Thai curry with chicken and multi-colored rice. Simply delicious and very inexpensive.

Photo’s of canal, temples, prayer and traffic taking place a few feet away. The shopping area, stalls on the sidewalk, were a sidewalk hours earlier. They transform throughout the day and night.

Believe it or not, I have not had a Thai massage yet! They offer foot and leg massage or normal Thai massage for 200 Baht or about $7. I’m thinking I probably need a neck and jaw massage after keeping my mouth pried open for six hours the past couple days.

Very hot today, almost enough to make a person melt. Fortunately, I was on the canal in a water taxi of sorts which was much cooler. I wandered through an ancient village hidden from the street by a 12 foot solid wall. Very cool finding that place!

More to come later!
