A Walk About With Larry

Bangkok arrival

I’m arrived at A One Inn. Their directions from the airport were impeccable. My flight landed early at 6:00 am, I was at the front desk here by 8:00. Waiting for baggage took the bulk of that time between. Customs and immigration were a snap. I was waved through customs, they didn’t look at either bag.

I’m already reflecting on how past travel experience is serving me. The expression of “seasoned’ traveler comes to mind. Navigating the United desk yesterday, persisting until I got a ticket and being able to board was the first hurdle. In retrospect, I’m suspicious I could fabricate a confirmation time, put down a flight number and date, hand it to United and it would have worked. NO ONE CHECKED anything!!! Thai Airways…not a word. Immigration, didn’t care. I hope I can use the ticket I purchased.

Finding my way through the airport here was the next obstacle. Just past immigration, the baggage claim area awaited. Waiting for the bags gave me time to locate one of the numerous ATM’s to load up on Thai Baht. Navigating the maze and layers of the airport asking frequently for directions and I found the new train system from the airport.

Interpreting the automated payment system, finding the train, navigating the final station stop on a packed morning commuter train, and eventually coursing through two BTS sky train changes to walk here, all that navigating is the result of travel experience. My first trip or two, considering doing that would have been overwhelming!!!

Now, I’m here with a very friendly family at the A One Inn close to my afternoon dental appointment. It’s one of the most expensive rooms I’ve had in all my travels, a little over $30 US. Wonderful people, new area, safe and lots to explore.

For now, a rest is in order. I did get a lot of sleep on the flight last night and the flight was so much shorter than most I’ve had, I really feel quite fresh this morning. Morning here approaching a0:00 am, evening in Colorado approaching 8:00. From the time my flight left Denver until I reached the Inn was about 27 hours or so. MUCH preferred to the 42 hours, five airports, hours of layover and such that was involved last time!
