Spontaneous Travel Adventure: Oldest Rain Forest on the Earth and Bali

TRAVEL ADVENTURE!!  I’ve been looking for a trip, have begun planning several, and they fizzled.  The energy went right out.  Very affordable tickets to Guatemala had me dreaming of hanging out at a few favorite places.  However, they were booked!  “No room at the inn”…so I stopped looking.

About 10 days ago, the idea of visiting Bali again popped into my head.  Looking up flights, my old favorite route to Kuala Lumpur is once again open!  Direct from Denver to Tokyo, then, direct to Kuala Lumpur.  And, the cost was less than half when I last went.  I tinkered with connections and days and everything fell into place.  I bought my ticket…started organizing my travel gear, and I’m leaving tomorrow!  Whoosh…quickly formed and I’m about to launch.

Flights from Kuala Lupur to Bali round trip are under $200 with AirAsia.  I plan to stay in Kuala Lumpur for a few days, resting up from travel.  I’ve read that a 2 hour time change in travel takes one day to adapt.  I’m going through a 15 hour change!  YAY!  I’ll stay near China Town and have a couple acupuncture treatments to help!  Walking…exploring…good food, relaxing, making new friends…the perfect medicine.

I’ve wanted to visit one of the islands off the West coast so will go there.  When I come back, I’ll to on to Taman Negara.  I was there once before, on an early trip to SE Asia, and want to visit it again.  I saw the  “Mouse Deer” there.  This time, I want to hike in and savor the original forest!

Here is more detailed information on the park:  Taman Negara

Travel to Taman Negara

Boat Transport Taman Negara

Above, the boat to Kuala Tahan, the village next to Taman Negara.  Three hours cruising on the river gazing at forest.  Doing this on my own was looking complicated.  I did a search, found a familiar sounding company and contacted them!  It’s the same company I went with last time.  Transport from Kuala Lumpur to the jetty, the boat ride to Kuala Tahan, and a shuttle back to Kuala Lumpur when I go back:  $53.  Bonus, they meet for departure about tw0 blocks from my hotel in the city!!  Perfect!

When I was here before, it was my first experience with leeches.  They are messy but not painful!  When they attach, they secrete an anticoagulant so the blood continues to run while they feet.  I plucked one off my ankle and the would continued bleeding.  I tried pressure, bandaid, tale and nothing worked.  That’s when I thought of the small roll of duct tape I brought along!  After cleaning the wound and drying it, I stuck a small piece of duct tape on it.  The bleeding stopped instantly!  Duct Tape Medicine!

Welcome to Malaysia!

Taman Negara Canopy Walk

The canopy walk has been closed for a year or so.  Part of it was closed for maintenance when I was there.  I’d love to walk it again.  Not being able to do that, I can share this information I found on the web:   canopy walk

Photo on the right, bird watchers heading out wearing leech socks!  Hopefully, they won’t be too bad this trip!

Hiking requires wearing leech socks.
Forest walk, pretty cool.

The forest!  Ahhhhhh!  My desire this trip is to simply walk and sit and relax and enjoy the energy of this forest.  Ancient!  Massive!  And rich.  I’ll go on a night hike again but mostly I intend to take my time, walk slowly and savor the forest!

Powerful experiences: this time, the beach!

From Koh Samet, Thailand

I’ll post some photos of Pangkor Island when I can.  I am not taking my big camera.  I prefer not constantly looking for photos.  This trip, I will spend more time “being”.  I’m taking my small camera and my phone.  It’ll be interesting to see what emerges!  The image above is from Koh Samet in Thailand.  Numerous people advised me to skip it.  However, I felt drawn, went, and had an amazing experience with some of the softest white sand I’ve experienced anywhere!  It was also the first time I relaxed and rested up before coming home.  Great idea!!

Looking forward to some Bali Magic! And healing!

I’ve not been to Bali for a while.  I am looking forward to seeing the healers and getting my body tuned up!!  I’ve already connected with several!  I love working with Nyman at Sandat Bali.  I reconnected with Wayan and she is always fun to work with!  I’ll eat fresh food, walk, rent a motor bike and explore the country side at sunrise.  And reconnect with friends I’ve made from previous trips there.

NO! You don't want to go there! Poor travel advice.

Remember the old Sufi Saying, “Only a food trusts anothers word over their own experience”?  This is another place people advised me NOT to go to.  It’s a ferry port with boats going to the Gili Islands and Lombok.  Most people get out of a taxi or shuttle, buy a ticket, and shuffle on to the boat.  Or the reverse.  When the boats are gone, it’s really a nice quiet village…to me!

Listen…feel…go with what fits for you!

I hope to go to both of the places below!  I don’t have a schedule, flow, adapt as I go along.  It would be lovely to visit the ocean again here.  If not, some other lovely opportunity will come along!

Benefit of spontaneity!

Above, Blue Lagoon Beach.  Just up and over the hill to the North, another great spot for relaxing!  I discovered that this is the place that many snorkeling trips brought their guests!  Yes, clearly, not a very pleasant place to visit!

Below, White Sand Beach just South of Padang Bai.  I had such a great couple days visiting there.  It’s a short walk from the village!

Bali sights and healers!

Lovely people!  Fresh food.  Warm friendly culture.  Fresh food!  Good coffee!  Beautiful surroundings.  I’m looking forward to embracing Bali once again!

I’ve got roughly 25 hours of travel ahead of me.  I’m going to finish packing now.  I’ll update when I get grounded over on the other side of the planet.  Thanks for traveling along with me!
