A Walk About With Larry

Not a city boy!

Madera Street, not on a busy night!

UPDATE…now, with actual photo’s rather than blank spaces.  Really slow wifi last night kept disconnecting!

The photo above is from a weeknight when the street is actually really quiet!  Interesting, yes!  Pricey, yes!  Not my favorite place to be.

I don’t much like big cities, preferring the more intimate connections of smaller villages.  Mexico City is certainly full of vitality but it feel frenetic to me.  The slow pace of living is gone.  Life is fast in the city, things move quickly.  It’s a very different experience indeed.

I knew that coming in and chose to come to see the museums and galleries.  And, it’s an experience I had yet to have so, here I am/was/will be.

Tuesday, I did find my way via metro to a stop within 15 minutes walking to the National Museum of Anthropology.  It was awesome and overwhelming!

There is no way to experience it in one visit!  After 2 1/2 hours, I was blitzed, overwhelmed and couldn’t process one thing more.  Fortunatley, I started with the Teotihuacan exhibit, a place I will visit for the first time next week.  What a lovely overview!  Via the virtual reality presentation, I’m more informed on the history and layout for my actual trip next week!

Inside, the inner courtyard.

On my way back, I found a lovely little coffee shop.  Friendly family, they roast on site and it’s a pretty good coffee.  The owner lived in Colorado for a while and worked in the US as a chef so I’ll be back to visit them.  A pocket of warmth and friendliness within the city.  There are lots of those little pockets within the chaos of the city.

Now versed in my new ability to travel Mexico City via metro, I set off the next morning for Tepoztlan.  I posted a link to information on FaceBook.  For those of you not on FaceBook, here it is:  http://bit.ly/2PKWUlq

Mexico City is roughly 7,400 feet.  It’s cold in the evenings.  Tepoztlan is the same altitude of Denver.  Pleasant year round.  I left my hostel, walked to the metro.  The metro was PACKED!  After two stops, I got a seat.  Only six more stops to the end.

Off the train, asking for directions, through the market and into the bus station, I had 7 minutes to wait for the next bus.  Really fast and comfortable.

Now, I’m here in Tepoztlan!

Yes, I have found good coffee.  OK…found it more than once!

I’m not able to walk as much as I would like because of sciatica issues acting up.  However, whether I sit or walk, it’s about the same.  So I’m pushing it just a little bit.

I’m close to the city of Cuernavaca.  Since I have never been there, I may take a trip there to explore a bit.  It’s roughly 11 miles away.

Yesterday, I was looking for a chiropractor or massage.  I saw several places that didn’t feel right.  On my way back to the hostel, I found a plaza restaurant that looked quite pleasant.  On my way back to the tables, I noticed a massage place on the left.  A man came to help me and answer questions.

He recommended a “massage profunco”, a profound massage.  Then he demonstrated on my arm the way he works.  I was hooked and on the table in minutes for him to work on me.

He started with essential oils.  Then he worked the deep muscles in my back and legs.  Then he added hot stones.  After that, he did some cupping.  Then he did some more body work in the areas where he had done the cupping.  Awesome!

Feels much better all over today!
