Slept a bit rough last night. Woke up tight and felling out of sync. I went walking with my laptop to find a spot for breakfast and then a stop at “Coffee & More”. Not much open even at 9:00 am on a Sunday morning. The Roti place was opening, I sat and waited. It took them a long time to get to me. Eventually, someone showed up who spoke English, they helped me.
Lovely breakfast! Once I arrived at “Coffee & More”, I got on the web to handle a few projects. I had not booked a room formy Singapore stopover on the way to Bali nor did I get seats for my flight. I also didn’t have lodging here for the last three nights in Bangkok and needed to let Dewa know when I was arriving in Bali. Sounds like work doesn’t it!
I ordered a Moka which was excellent! I’m typing this in my room anticipating going back there to send email, post this message and have another Moka!
The hotel told me when I left they were booked full. “Maybe before noon tomorrow, check for another night”….not very promising. Considering work and planning I was facing, I had a sudden realization.
“I’ve been going and going since landing here”!!! Finally, I realized it’s time to SLOW DOWN, relax, do nothing and I decided to stop! This is my fifth visit to Bangkok, there is really nothing I feel a burning desire to see or do so I decided to settle in where I am, take it easy, read much, enjoy the pool and eat lightly. Everything will work out, it always does!
Back to the hotel, the woman who helped me yesterday and got all excited when she learned I was from Colorado was at the desk and got my key for me. At the risk of irritating the staff which DEFINITELY has happened at this front desk, I asked once again if it was possible to get a room for tomorrow? She told me I already had paid. Several translations later, she said understood what I was asking, said yes and extended my stay in my current room one night. I paid and that’s that. DONE! No moving or scrounging around for another hotel. Next, I’ll hear from A One Inn about staying there which I’m confident of since I mentioned it to them before I left.
They are close to the dental clinic where I have one more visit, next to the BTS sky train which makes Bangkok accessible and it’s a breeze getting to the airport. They are also close to a mall with movie theaters so I think I’ll take one in while here. It’s gotten so hot the past couple days, locals are complaining and I heard that at 9:00 in the morning!!! Maybe complaining about the weather is a universal form of connecting?
In keeping with my new theme for settling in, I headed to the pool for a relaxing hour of swimming and reading. My body ached from all travel, walking and lugging my backpack around so I went to visit the massage place next to my hotel.
Last time I was here, I went there three days in a row. It’s where I learned that older women still doing massage are doing it for the love of the work, not for money and the lady there was excellent! She worked me over! It was so tight between my shoulder blades, she commented with a grunt. My legs were sore from all the walking, but, not anymore. This is the best Thai Massage I have ever had! I’ll be doing that again!
I’ll be back tomorrow! I also plan to get on the water taxi tomorrow to go explore simply for the delight of being on the river. I’ve never taken it up river to the end so will consider doing that tomorrow. Maybe I’ll take it all the way to China Town on the way back and have some authentic Chinese Food!
I’d write more but, I’m taking it easy now. And that Moka is beckoning!
Ciao…
PS… watched aerobics with the river for background, the sun setting, a martial arts class taking place one level above on the grass and three or four stages set up for theater performances. Couldn’t resist and went back for more roti for dinner. YUM!
