Actually, I have tomorrow but it is moving day so that’s different. I have an early flight Thursday and with traffic, I’m moving closer to the airport for one night. That will give me a new neighborhood to explore as well.
Today, I made it to Teotihuacan. I took the local bus to the Del Norte where I was going to buy a ticket to Teotihuacan. A line was waiting. After a short time, I saw the agent shaking her head “no”. I went up to talk to her and learned there were no buses leaving because they couldn’t get anywhere.
The people of Texoco were protesting changing plans to a new airport to have gone in there. Over 5,000 of them were protesting in Mexico City Sunday. Their volume closed the highway so no one was in or out on Monday. I looked behind at a growing line of people numbering close to 75 or so!
I came back to my hostel several hours later feeling like the buses were not going to run. I spent the day exploring churches as the art galleries and museums were closed. I also got to walk new neighborhoods away from downtown. Within a block or so, I didn’t see any other tourist for two hours.
Notice the three story organ!
This morning, I went early repeating the same path I used yesterday. I got to the corner and a bus pulled up. At the ticket station, no one was waiting! I had time for a coffee and muffin while I waited 10 minutes for the bus.
What a smooth day! The bus stopped right at the entrance to the park. I walked in with two friends I met on the bus. She’s from Australia, he’s from New York, they have lived in Singapore for 3 1/2 years. Recently married, they are traveling around the world!
Lots of exercise today! Up and down steps and lots of walking. Here are a few photo’s of the ruins from today.
Strange things to deal with today like details to make sure things are working when I get home! Activate cell phone, car insurance, list of groceries, etc. So weird thinking of those things! Stranger still, realizing I’ll be home in two days.
Two days from right now, I’ll be sitting in my living room in Colorado!?
