A brief posting as the internet here is really slow. I’m not sure this will even post???
I arrived late in Houayxai so the office for the Gibbon Experience was closed. I found a hotel and checked in for the night, had dinner, watched the sun set over the Mekong River and got some sleep. Just in case, I repacked my backpack to be ready in the morning.
After breakfast, I went to the office and waited for them to open with four other people. The experience I had wanted was full and, at first, I was reluctant to join the shorter experience. I’m glad I did..it was amazing!
Here is what my past few days has consisted of:
Meeting and leaving for trek at 9:00. Trekking three hours plus half-a-dozen zip lines later, arriving at our tree house by zip line. Next morning was early zip line experience for 1 1/2 hours, breakfast, trek out, return to Houayxai, bus to Luang Nam Tha and arrive at 9:00 pm. Got here in time to have soup at the night market.
Yesterday, rented a motor bike. I’m about 60 kilometers from the border with China so rode up into the hills in that direction exploring for hours. Lots of small villages and some beautiful hillsides. Other hillsides stripped and planted perfectly in rubber trees….those not so pretty.
Back to town and after finding my two day trek cancelled, I found another that involves kayaking today, trekking out tomorrow and returning to village here. We’ll sleep in one of the local villages tonight.
Next morning early, bus to Luang Prabang. Was going to take the night bus tomorrow until I learned it takes 12-13 hours instead of the 8 hours the day bus requires. So I’m taking the short travel time.
Now, packing to head to the office. Hope I can get this posted!
Off on next adventure now! Ciao…
