Average Day of Travel...
I made it to Pangkor Island. As usual, there were uncertainties involved in travel. Those are always a given. How a person deals with those, that is what makes the trip delightful or exhausting.
Wayne Dyer once made a comment about character. His take, we say circustances build character. What happens to you and around you help to build your character. He didn’t agree! His perspective was powerful to me! This was decades ago and I continue to remember and use it.
Wayne Dyer’s thought: “Circumstances don’t make your characer. They reveal it!”
Who you are, how you are, what you believe, your tolerance and flexibility, you reveal your self when circumstances get challenging. That is clearly evident when traveling.
I put together video clips from my journey to Pangkor Island from Kuala Lumpur. Going back will be a piece of cake now that I know how things flow!
Stay Flexible! Enjoy the journey!
Images will give you a clearer perspective. Over a year ago, I came to SE Asia for 2 1/2 months of travel. Starting in Kuala Lumpur, I traveled on to Padang, and then Medan/Bukit Lawang, Sumatra. Then flew to Chiang Mai, Thailand. Traveled overland to Laos. Spent a month exploring there. Flew to Bali. Then flew back to Singapore and on to the USA. I had 15 flight segments during that trip. And scheduled drivers, some of whom didn’t show up. Got dropped at the wrong spot. Couldn’t find anyone who knew where the “Bamboo Bungalows” were, got offered a ride from strangers, spent two days gloating down the Mekong River, rented bicycles and motorbikes and more.
In addition to patience, flexibility, confidence that things are always working out, a sense of humor, kindness and anything else you can think of…it also takes energy. Some days, I would pick a spot and not move for two or three days to rejuvenate! Coming here, I didn’t want to have long days of travel. So I did only one!
In a few days, I reverse course and return to Kuala Lumpur. The following morning, I leave at 8:30 for Taman Negara Park. I could have organized a similar trip. Grab driver to bus station. Take a bus to next station, taxi to the ferry terminal, get a ticket for the ferry, and wait for connectoins between all of those segments.
I dug a little deeper and found Han Travel. I saw the name and remembered I had gone with them 20 years ago. Contacting them, their communication and response was great!
My next trip consist of this: walk two blocks to their office by 8:00. Get on the van to the jetty. Get on the boat for the 3 hour ride on the river to reach the village. Take my pack and walk a couple blocks to my hostel. Simple. Smooth. Managed. And so much less energy needed.
I will always balance the two options. I love slow travel and normally have time for that. But, there are times for the other options!
Links if you haven’t seen these in an earlier post. I’ll use a different one for Pangkor with different information. Keep in mind, this is marketing information. It definitely does not look like this when a cyclone is swirling by!
