Adaptability!

Yes, already!  Full on adaptability.  After a pretty smooth travel day yesterday, I was really pleased with my journey.  When I reached Guatemala City, Fernando had a name and a phone number for a driver who would be here at 3:00 am to drive me to the shuttle pickup spot!  By 3:10, still no shuttle driver!  So what happened??  Fernando woke his wife and they drove me!  I got there with about 10 minutes to spare.

The first part of the trip was tight corners and twisty driving that threw my stomach into a tizzy!  Happy I didn’t have breakfast.

When the shuttle stopped, there was confusion about it being a bathroom break or a breakfast stop??  I quickly ordered breakfast.  Then, we waited for another van to arrive, they moved our stuff and it appeared we were changing vans!  Oh well…it worked.

This was one of the easiest border crossings I have every experienced!  Guatemala and Honduras, in the same building, no technicalities, pay $3 US and go through to Honduras and then out the door!  Smooth!

Few more surprises.

Different currency!  Suddenly, prices are not $8 Q to $1 US.  Now, it’s $24L to $1 US.  So the numbers are all much higher but might be less.  Too tired from travel to calculate too much.  Enjoying what I have which I will show you in a minute.

Most larger expenses here, I can pay with Visa!  That’s new!  I did have to go to three different ATM’s to find one that worked to get some local cash for transportation and guides service when I need it.  Or light lucn and coffee and that sort of thing.

When I checked in to ViaVia Hotel here, they asked me if Grant had mentioned the club??  No?  Well, they have a club attached to the restaurant.  Apparently it can get quite loud!  Fortunately, it only plays until 2:00 am!  Well, I’ll see how that works!

Finding the local rhythm!

My plan to go to the hot springs didn’t not materialize.  With only one passenger, it would be quite expensive.  The Macaw park closed early.  But, I did find “Te Y Chocolate” which was amazing!  The local three wheel transport is very inexpensive and, with the cobblestones and steep hill, it was a great way to get up there.  It was the perfect time of day!  With the sun beginning to set, light changing, no breeze, sitting at tree level with the birds…it was awesome!  I’ll post video and photos below!

Products Naturales!

All the products at “Te Y Chocolate” are natural.  They have multiple types of chocolate, their vanilla comes from their own tree and their tinctures come from the local hills!  And such a peaceful setting!!

Entrance....and what an entrance!

Such a peaceful place from the moment I walked in until I found the balcony overlooking the forest in the back.  The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly!  Authentic Hot Chocolate, add your own sugar to your taste.  And the chocolate brownie, with 68% chocolate, so tasty and so little sugar!

Photo's from my visit!

New Plan!?

Early morning visit to the ruins and the mueum there.  Then perhaps shopping for a different place to say if the music is too loud and annoying?  At 2:00 in the afternoon, I’ll be on the shuttle going to the hot springs which returns around 7:00 pm.  Lovely day with a break in the middle.  I may go to Macaw Mountain but since I have more open days here, may just take it easy and flow!

Ciao!
