Good Timing in San Miguel de Allende
I enjoy San Miguel de Allende very much. As many people I meet that tell me it’s the best place in the world to live, I’ve never felt that draw. But it is a really special place to visit! So many things to explore and enjoy from foods to galleries to nature and much more!
There are a ton of recommendations on the web. I tend to look for links to official government sources, professional publications, or simply read a variety of personal blogs and edit out the things that don’e speak to me. Here’s a link if you would like to learn a bit more about San Miguel de Allende: https://bit.ly/SeeSanMiguel
Weekend and Sunday treat!
I met a friend for breakfast and met some of her local friends at an awesome restaurant. The moment I walked in, the feeling of great energy greeted me! And then, the coffee was excellent and the food even better. So nice so actually be able to go for a long walk after a week of foot issues. Slow and easy, amble along, always moving toward where I’m going but in a personal exploratory manner!

More interesting, read their story! Silveyra’s Story
Regarding my walk….uhm….I’m relearning how to travel for an extended time. When I was in Bali, I pretty much stayed put in one place and moved around from there. Here, I’m moving a lot! SO, I’m slowly re-learning how to do it well! For this Sunday morning walk, I decided to empty my shoulder bag and take it with me for the first. I still had my waist pack where I keep my valuables and my camera. As I wandered toward Barbara’s house, I turned off the google map and explored where I felt I wanted to go. On the main road, about 40 minutes early, I turned right to look for a coffee. A block later as I looked down the street to my left, I saw the sign for Silveyra’s, the place we were meeting Barbara’s friends later.
I loved the place the moment I walked in, met the waitress, had a great chat, loved my coffee and then headed to see where my friend is living now. About half way there, I realized I did not have my shoulder bag!!! I really didn’t notice because I have my camera, over my shoulder, so felt complete. A brief moment of concern and then I realized…what a perfectly safe place for it to be left. It was there when I got back!
Wish I could have gotten back but didn’t make it. Next time..definitely!
Wandering!
I love heading into a new area, taking my time, exploring and discovering. This is a great city to do that. Away from the touristy center of town, the neighborhoods clearly have a different feel! People are friendly. There is something to see everywhere. And it gives me a wonderful feel for place!
For example!
Serendipity!
After exploring, I heard the music and moved toward the church where I saw the procession coming up the street!
And then.....
around the corner is a little local restaurant with great pozole. It was cooling off and getting cold so that sounded like the perfect dinner! It was! After my meal, I walked back toward the plaza on my way back to the hotel. However, mariachi music distracted me! There were multiple mariachi bands playing in different parts of the area in front of the church!
After a while, I heard the brass horns erupt from the gazebo in the center of the plaza. I was one of the first people to go back there and listen. What an amazing sound!! Then, the crowd grew…and grew….and grew…. Eventually, everyone was dancing and moving for about an hour. When it felt like things were winding down, I walked back toward the church, again early and ahead of the crowd. And I mean CROWD!
I didn’t know what was coming but anticipation was clearly in the air. Soon, the mystery was solved! I had seen men working on towers earlier in the day and knew it was fireworks. Now, they began slowly firing off different segments. That was pretty impressive! Or so I thought! Soon, an even grander display began. So fortunate to be in this spot experiencing this with so many other people! Anywhere I have experienced fireworks in the world, the reactions are the same…oooh, ahhh, ooohhhh, AHHH….
It has taken me a couple days to edit and put this together. It will carry some of the excitement and enthusiasm of the moment much better than I could every do with simple words and photos. Enjoy!
