First visit to Laos
My first trip overseas over 20 years ago was to Thailand. It was great yet I continued to hear how much it had changed. People recommended I go to Vietnam because it was like Thailand 20 years ago. I did. It was great. Then, I heard the same thing about Laos.
So, I headed there! With 90 days to travel, no itinerary, I wandered across the Thai border at Huay Xai and headed NW toward China. Eventually, I wandered all the way to the 4,000 Islands in the South and came back up to coffee country on the Bloaven Plateau.
I’m headed back soon to see things I heard about but didn’t get to plus new experiences I’ve recently read about. Here are some stories from before, I’ll add more when I get back there.
First impression, I loved Northern Laos! Great travel and culture experience!

Flat days…new experience in Laos
The first time in a new country, there is no way of knowing what it is like without experiencing it first hand. Reading and looking at photo’s doesn’t create a feeling. Travel books must find something interesting to say about everyplace in a country, that’s their purpose. Before I travel,
Laos travel day, leaving Luang Prabang
Greetings from Vang Vieng, Laos. Yesterday, my tuk tuk was to pick me up at 8:30. I had an early breakfast, returned to my hotel at 8:00 and a few minutes later the driver was there waiting for me. Early! Once in a while that happens. After making the rounds
