Three times in three days, I’ve sat with former strangers and had the most real conversation. All three describe similar situations in their lives. First, it was Jon from Spain. He and Suzana are traveling around the world for a year. He quit his job working as a financial planner type guy with a company in Spain. Now, he’s wondering if he wants to do the same thing when he returns. He’s contemplating some options, feels like he is proficient to do just about anything in the financial field and knows he didn’t really love what he did before.
But, what would it be if not that????
Then it was Anna from Amsterdam. She’s the woman that saw her real estate company going down, decided to leave, sold her house, is traveling and wondering what she’s like to do next. As she described her long days in the office, her shoulders rose with tightening muscles and the stress of even describing her past existence! “Now what” is a place she is exploring!
Then, it was Betsy from D.C. who has worked in the political area for over 10 years. She’s a “West Coast” type girl having been raised in Washington state. At first, dressing up in D.C., which is required for the work there, felt like “dress up” to her. Now, traveling about and reflecting, she’s aware the work and lifestyle simply don’t fit who she is. She is faced with two options: go back and continue working with politics or, go to the West coast and explore something entirely new and different.
Is it something in the air or in the water? I have had a lot of conversations with people about the same issue while traveling. It appears a lot of people are becoming aware that what they have forced themselves into doing in the past simply doesn’t work anymore. And, if they continue to do it, knowing it doesn’t fit, they will risk having their health and life not work for them anymore. So, what to do next and how to get clear about that?
My friend Mary here has gone through similar clarity in the past. She spent a year living on a mountain here, swimming in a cold stream every day, immersing herself in the healing and cleansing qualities of the water, and one day simply knew she had changed. She was now going to be happy. Her life is working very well for her now!
I’m wondering how many other people are feeling similar urges? And what they find helps them get clarity or at least feel peaceful during the times of uncertainty?
